CANONISATION FERVOUR

TRIBUTES TO PIUS X WARNING IN ROME LONDON, Feb. 9. The Daily Telegraph's Rome correspondent states that, a broadcast speech, evidently at the request of the Holy See, was heard to-day by the people of Italy. The broadcast warned the people against an excess of zeal at the tomb of Pope Pius X, who died in 1914, and was buried in the crypt- of St. Peter's. The speaker said that this fervour aimed at putting pressure on the ichurch to hasten the canonisation of Pius X, but it would delay it. The grave for years past had been constantly covered with fresh flowers, and queues of people had waited to pray before it. Pius X, during his lifetime, had won a reputation as a worker of many miracles, and the belief had gained ground after his death. There was a strong feeling that he should be made a saint without the customary delay.
