The third turbine unit for the production of hydro-electric power at Tuai will be installed during the latter part of 1938, according to advice received in Wairoa, arrangements having been made to take delivery of the machinery about the middle of the year. The construction of the pipeline which is to serve this unit is going ahead well, the concrete cradles being well on, and the making of the pipes also showing excellent progress. The Hume Pipe Company, Limited, is the contractor for supplying the pipes and placing them in Position on the cradles laid by the Public Works Department. Instead of riveting the nines "at the joins, as in the case of he first two lines from the Kiaitawa surge chamber to the power-house at S the third line will be welded, diminishing to some extent the surface friction opposed to the now ot water.—Special.
