English railways had made a good recovery from the competition of road transport systems, many of .which were uneconomic, declared Sir Josiah Stamp in Auckland. The railways had not received their full share of increased traffic, but, with pending legislation to control hours and- wages of operatives on road transport and to restrict uneconomic competition, the position should before long be righted so far as the railways were concerned.
