MR. W. J. HILL'S PASSING
WAIROA COUNTY TRIBUTE "DIED IN HARNESS" (Herald Correspondent.) At the Wairoa County Council's meeting yesterday the acting chairman, Cr. A. T. Carroll, said he had a sad duty to perform in consequence of the death Of Cr. W. J. Hill, which nad taken place since the last meetaig of the council. As a man, a settler and a councillor, they all knew his value, but especially so as a member of the council, he being a sterling character and a good business man. The deceased was active to the last, especially in the matter of getting the .vihitu road metalled, the result of I lie long struggle being announced to him Only the day before his death. Thus he died in Harness.
He then moved a vote of condolence with the relatives. Cr. S. A. Dickie seconded the motion, and he and Cr. W. Tait endorsed the acting-chairman's remarks. The motion was carried, all standing in silence as a mark of respect, after which the council adjourned for a short period as a further mark of respect.
