THE WEATHER Last Night's Forecast An anticyclone of rather slight intensity is moving from the eastern Tasman Sea on to New Zealand. Pressure is very uniform over eastern Australia. The forecast is for south- I eriy winds over the northern half of j the North Island, elsewhere variable

with northerlies later predominating, light to moderate. Seas in New Zealand waters will be slight to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea there will be light to moderate east to north winds in the northern portion, and north to west winds in the southern. Seas will be slight to moderate. The weather will be fair to fine and warm. To-day's North Island Report Blue skies were reported in the Bay of Plenty this morning, but overcast conditions prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Light southerly breezes were blowing north of Napier and light northerlies further south. The barometer had continued to rise slowlv. Temperatures at 9 o'clock were: Auckland 68, Onotiki 76, Tauranga 73, East Cape 67, Gisborne 70, Napier 77, and Wellington 72. Moderate or smooth seas were reported everywhere. Midday Forecast General inference. —The r ecent anticyclone is now centred to the east of New Zealand and a very shallow depression is located over the western part of the Tasman Sea. Pressure is falling also in the north of the Tasman, where there is some indication of disturbed conditions developing. Forecast.—Light to moderate northeasterly winds, gradually freshening.
