VARIED IN INTENSITY

REPORTS FROM COUNTRY SOME ROADS FLOODED (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. The high wind which raged intermittently in districts south of Auckland demolished a cowbail at Pararimu, 14 miles from Papakura, hurled the roof and two sides of the building a quarter of a mile, and sev.erely damaged the milking plant. Varying reports as to the intensity of the storm were received from country areas. Several neighbourhoods suffered inconvenience from dislocated telephone and electric power services. The committee of the Waihi Agricultural and Pastoral Association is to hold a meeting this morning to decide whether the annual show will be held.

Very heavy rain fell in the North Auckland district, and a high northeasterly wind blew on Thursday night and throughout yesterday. Streams previously were below the normal summer level, excepting in the Kiripaka zone, where many of the roads were under water and much of the cream separated by farmers could not be collected. Towards the end of the afternoon, the rain eased, and it was not anticipated that motor traffic would be held up to-day. In the Waikato, about 35 telephone lines were affected in different parts of the district and several electric power lines were carried away in the Central Waikato Power Board area.

TENNIS POSTPONED MORE RAIN OVERNIGHT (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Although the gale abated overnight, a good deal more rain fell, and as there was much water on the Stanley street courts yesterday it is most unlikely that there will be any play in the New Zealand tennis tournament. In that case, the remaining 13 championship matches will all be postponed until Tuesday as it had already been decided not to continue on Monday, because the Auckland association has arranged for exhibitions by Budge and Mako and Misses D. Bundy and D. Workman, who are returning to the United States by the Monterey, and for which 5s is being charged for seats.
