Lady Galway is a passenger on the Awatea, which left Sydney last evening for Wellington. Captain D. Evans, Buluwayo, Rhodesia, retired chief accountant of Rhodesian Railways, is spending a holiday in New Zealand. Mr. W. C. Mason, second deputyregistrar at the Supreme Court, Wellington, has received notice of transfer to the Supreme Court, Auckland, as senior deputy-registrar. Mr. Mason has been at the Supreme Court in Wellington for 24 years. The Rev. Father Richard Dwyer is to leave New Zealand shortly to take up work under St. Columban’s Missionary Society in China. Father Dwyer was educated at the Star of the Sea College, Seatoun, and later at St. Thomas’ Academy, Oamaru, and St. Bede’s College, Christchurch.
Mr. R. J. W. Hall, branch manager of the State Advances Corporation at New Plymouth, has been appointed district intermediate credit supervisor for the Taranaki rural intermediate credit district. Mr. Hall also has been appointed ,a member of the Taranaki District Rural Intermediate Credit Board.
Mr. D. G. Beattie, supervisor for the Bay of Plenty-Poverty Bay Pig Council’s district, returned to Gisborne last night after a visit to Palmerston North. He intends going to the Bay of Plenty during the week-end, returning to meet Mr. J. M. Scott, superintendent of the pig club movement for the Dominion, when he visits the district.

Mr. W. S. Welch, head of Bland, Welch and Company, an old-establish-ed firm of London insurance brokers, who was fcr many years chairman and later president of the Insurance Brokers’ Associition, will arrive at Auckland with his wife and brother, Mr. H. J. Welch, by the Rangitiki next Friday. M-. H. ,T. Welch is chairman of many inportant companies with Eastern cotnections. During their tour of Nev Zealand the party will visit anothir ' brother, Mr. T. W. Welch, of T: Aroha, whom they have not seen foi 32 years. .
Twenty-thiee nominations for 17 vacancies foi office with the Gisborne Competitions Society have been received by the secretary, Mr. A. Blackburn.
