OPENING DELAYED

INVERCARGILL WOOL SALE GOOD QUALITY OFFERING LARGE CLIPS INCLUDED (Por Tress Association.) INVERCARGILL, this clay. The first wool sale of the season at InvcrtcargilL commences this afternoon. It was originally arranged that the sale should start at 9 a.m., but the buyers, finding two days too short in which to value the full catalogue of 28,121! bales, requested extra time. It is recognised that the granting of extra time is definitely in the growers’ favour, as a too-hurried valuation would tend to prevent the full value of the clips being realised.

Light and bright fleeces carrying less grease than last year reflect the drier season. Quality is there, with no break in staple to indicate any setback to the sheep. Cotted stuff is comparatively rare. The catalogue is representative of all Southland and includes most of the large clips from the back country, where shearing has been earlier this season through there being no interruption from the weather. From .'lO to 40 per cent of the offering is binned, with some good lines of hogget wool which, however, is not quite the same length ns in other seasons. ( Practically a full bench of buyers will attend, including representatives of Japanese li.'ins who were at Auckland and Christchurch sales and lifted some 7000 bales, their first purchases of flic New Zealand season.
