NARROW DEFEAT
N.Z. WOMEN CRICKETERS STRONG N.S.W. TEAM FACED BOWLERS IN ASCENDENCY (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press ABsn.f (Reed. Feb. 4, 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Feb. 3. A strong New South Wales team defeated the New Zealand women cricketers by 18 runs on the first innings. The "match was limited to one day, owing to the rain. The New Zealanders, facing good bowling, found runs difficult to make. The fast bowler, Miss Flaherty, opened with a great burst and thereafter the .New Zealanders were struggling for runs. Miss Hatcher was batting well until she received a nasty knock. Miss Pickering and Miss Johns batted patiently, but the latter took toll of loose balls on the leg side. Miss Hollis bowled splendidly against first-class bats and maintained her pace throughout. Her figures would have been even better had three chances from her bowling not been dropped.- The footwork of the local team was far superior to that of the New Zealanders.
