FINAL GALLOPS
RICCAKTON SPRINTS COURSE IN GOOD ORDER (Pop Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. A fog enveloped Riccarton early yesterday morning but cleared before work started, and conditions were pleasant for the final gallops prior to the Canterbury Jockey Club's summer meeting. A few horses went on,the plough, which was holding after an overnight watering, but most of the work was done on the outside of the course, which was in good order.
On the plough, Paper Slipper set the ball rolling over six furlongs in 1.1(5 2-5, and went an even pace all the way and finished well. Lazybones and Mulatto were on terms all through five furlongs in 1.4 4-5. Over a working gallop of seven furlongs. Great Memory and Great Bramble took 1.36 2-5. Defaulter and Yale did six furlongs in 1.19 4-5, but were not ridden out. Rousseau and Sovereign Lady were on terms all through a mile in 1.47 3-5, the last three furlongs taking 39 3-ssec. Contract beat Oriental King over half a mile in 52 3-ssec. Acceptable did five furlongs easily in 1.9.
On the course, Guinea Fowl did seven furlongs in 1.30 1-5, Sparkle going over the same ground in 1.31. Scuffle was not hurried in 52 3-ssec. over half a mile up the back. Financier cleared out from Owlsgleam on the last part of a five furlongs run in 1.2 3-5. It was a good performance. Nightdress and Liberate took 1.5 for five furlongs, but were not ridden out. Studley Royal covered a mile in 1.44, Ephod joining in the last mile, taking 53sec. The former did very well. Southern Two-year-olds Out The southern two-year-olds, Dunstan and Netherlea, dashed over half a mile in 49 2-ssec., a smart sprint. Shooting Star ran half a mile up the back in 51sec. Love Affair started with her, but was pulled up as her saddle slipped. She ran home. from the half-mile post in 50sec., finishing strongly. Stratosphere was just in front of Bellerive and Superex over six furlongs in lmin. 18 2-ssec, Rabble beat Dividend by a length over seven furlongs in lmin. 32sec. The former had the measure of his mate over the final furlong. Pink Comet ran a mile, taking 53sec. over the last halfmile. Pucelle, Romain and Chanter were in that order after a half-mile in 50 4-ssec. Finished Well Nightcalm did five furlongs alone in lmin. 3 4-ssec., finishing well. Nolana, after a start of two lengths, finished with Windward after six furlongs in lmin. 18sec. Swordstick and Dictate broke away from the •seven furlongs post two lengths in front of Happy Night. The positions were unchanged at the finish, Swordstick being a neck in front of Dictate. They did the first three furlongs in 38 3-ssec., and the full journey in lmin. 29 3-ssec. —a good gallop. Grey Honour took 52sec. in an easy halfmile. There was not much between Raeburn and Kilrobe at the end of a smart half-mile in 48 3-ssec. Davolo and Rotokino were not at j their best over six furlongs in lmin.
21 2-ssec. Density was going better than Night Hawk at the end of a halfmile in 48 2-ssec., Gold Trek following them all the way. It was a smart sprint. Good Passage, brought home by Gaoler, did a half-mile in 49 3-5 sec. Gas Mask finished well fiover a mile, with Top Rank, in lmin. 47sec. Glenogie beat Clubman over a halfmile in 48 3-ssec. —a good effort. Bright Prospect drew away from Drinkup at the end of seven furlongs in lmin. 30 l-ssec. The Jumpers Royal Amphora went over four brush hurdles, jumping in his usual smart style, though not at top speed. Conception went once round the liurdles at an even pace, jumping cleanly.
