MONKS’ LIVES SAVED

INSTINCT OF DOGS . FAMOUS ST. BERNARDS AVALANCHES AVOIDED (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. Feb. 3, 3 p.m.) LONDON, Feb. 2. How the dogs of the St. Bernard Hospice saved the lives of monks in a hurricane was told by Father Depgi over the trans-continental telephone from the hospice to the Daily Telegraph.

He said that some monks wanted to go into the snow.

“We tried to get the dogs to move, but they would not. Then occurred two 'tremendous avalanches. If the monks had gone out they would certainly have been overwhelmed. Their lives were saved by the marvellous instinct of the clogs.” he said.

Many windows of the hospice were broken and the doors smashed, the rooms being filled with snow.
