PIG CLUB EXHIBITS
WAIROA SHOW SECTION TYPE AND QUALITY (Special to the Herald.) WAIROA, this day. Entries of pig club sows and their progeny were an outstanding feature in the pig section of the Wairoa A. and P. Show yesterday, and no doubt helped to show the interest that is being taken in the national pig club movement.
This was remarked upon by Mr. D. G. Beattie, supervisor for the Poverty Bay-Bay of" Plenty Pig Council, who said that in years to come added interest must result in the increase in entries, especially when the progeny of the club sows were allotted to the members of the clubs concerned.
"The sows exhibited,'- Mr. Beattie added, "were of excellent type and quality and the progeny gave those interested in the industry some idea of the value of the movement by the introduction of animals of quality type, breed, and strain. "The custodians responsible for the care and welfare of their club's property are to be commended for the excellent condition and general appearance and behaviour of the club exhibits.
"In the past it has generally fallen to the lot of breeders outside the district to provide entries .in the pedigree sections in particular, and generally speaking it was only those in search of pedigree breeding stock who took any interest in this section, whereas yesterday many visitors to the Show gave evidence of their interest in this section by the congratulatory remarks heard on all sides concerning the introduction of the section.
"Whilst in no way finding fault with the classification of exhibits, it might not te amiss at this stage to suggest that a class for pig club sows only with and without litters be added to the schedule and also a class or classes fo r the progeny of pig club sows, the property of club members. Then again a class for grade sows, the property of. "club members, would be of benefit to the Show and f o the pig movement also. These suggestions might well apply to the baconer and porker classes also, insofar as pig clubs are interested. These suggestions are made with the object of stimulating yet greater interest in the industry, as well as helping to increase entries in this section." \
