GENERAL INCREASE GISBORNE COLLECTIONS FIGURES FOR THE YEAR December was a good month for the State in the matter of collections through the Customs Department at Gisborne, the three main headings < • taxation paid through this office showing substantial improvements on those for December, 1936. The year's collections were likewise well ahead of those for 1936, and the total of payments made by Gisborne business men and private individuals, in the form of Customs revenue, beer excise, and sales tax represented a substantial contribution to the consolidated fund.
