With the shade temperature at 88.5 degrees at the Waikanae Beach and 8G degrees at the aerodrome, Gisborne experienced its hottest day for the summer to date on New Years Day. The previous highest readings were taken on Christmas Day, when the maximum temperatures were 87 degrees at the beach and 85.4 degrees at the aerodrome.
