Dr. D. G. McMillan, M.P., wlio has peen an inmate of a private hospital in Wellington for some days, is progressing favourably. Mr. W. G. Holloway, assistant town clerk to the Eastbourne Borough Council, has been appointed town clerk of the Taihape Borough Council. In the recent accountancy examinations Mr. C. H. Baigent, Gisborne, gained passes in auditing, bookkeeping 111, and economics for section B Com. Miss Nora lnnes has been successful in passing the second section for her B.A. degree in the following subjects: English, History, Latin, and French. The Rev. D. J. Davies, vicar of Kilbirme and vicar-designate of St. Paul’s, formerly of Gisborne, has been appointed honorary canon of the procathedral to succeed Canon P. James. Dr. M. L. G. Hallwright, medical superintendent of the Wairoa Hospital, who underwent an operation in the hospital this week, is reported to be progressing satisfactorily.—Special. An engagement is announced between Arthur John, only son of Mr. and Mrs. N. Joyce, Tolaga Bay, and Anne Renay, elder daughter of Mr. M. Mullany and the late Mrs. Mullany, Tolaga Bay.
Mr. John A. Patrick, who is on the staff of the Bank of New South Wales, New Plymouth, has received word of his transfer to Tokomaru Bay, and will take up his duties there on January 17.
Mr. Justice Clancy, of the District Court, Sydney, arrived at Auckland by the Niagara, and will proceed to Suva. After a stay in Suva of about a week he will return to Auckland, remaining for a little over a week before returning to Sydney. His Honour, who is the youngest judge in Australia, was a barrister in Sydney six years ago when he was appointed t,o the judiciary,
