THE WEATHER To-day’s North Island Report Temperatures on the North Island coast north of Napier were higher to-day in general than yesterday, Tauranga topping the list again with 75 degrees at 9 a.m., Cape Maria and Opotiki returning 74 degrees, Napier 72, Auckland and East Cape 71, Tiritiri and Gisborne 70. Castlepoint and Cape Palliser reported 01 degrees and Wellington and Cape Campbell 58 Light breezes from the north were reported from Napier, Tauranga and Cape Maria, with calm at Opotiki, winds elsewhere ranging from south to south-east, rising in velocity to a high wind at Cape Campbell. Cape Maria and East Cape were the only points at which the sky was clear, all other stations reporting cloudy conditions, with passing showers at Auckland and Cape Palliser. Visibility was poor at Tiriliri, but good to excellent elsewhere. Only Casl'lepoint. Cape Palliser and Wellington reported rough seas, conditions being calm to moderate elsewhere.

Last Night’s Forecast Pressure still remains rather uniform over the Tasman and New Zealand area, but a slight disturbance has been crossing the South Island. A tropical cyclone is developing in the New Hebrides and is moving southward. The weather will be cloudy to overcast over the South Island, with scattered showers or misty rain, but conditions will soon improve on the west coast. Fine at first over the North Island, but clouding over later in eastern and far northern districts and some misty rain developing. Temperatures will become cooler. Midday Forecast General inference.—A deep and extensive tropical cyclone lias been moving southwards from the New Hebrides and was centred this morning north-west of Norfolk Island. The pressure is relatively high east of the South Island. Forecast—Light to moderate southerly winds, gradually becoming strong and turning more easterly. Weather cloudy to overcast, with misty rain at scattered, places, and later becoming more general. Temperatures cooler. Reas slight to moderate, but. increasing.
