Tait, S. A. Dickie and D. V. Thomas. Leave of absence was granted to Cr. G. E. Ormond, and to Cr. A. G. Nolan on account of illness.

The engineer of the Public Works Department, Wairoa, wrote pointing out that a grant of £l5O, £1 for £l, for metalling on Tunanui-Mahia road was recommended on the understanding that the metal was to be placed on the Opoutama end of the road. — It was decided to inform the petitioners, who asked that the money be expended at the Morere end, that it would have to be spent where authorised, namely, the Opoutama end.

The district engineer, Gisborne, advised that the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, had authorised the increase of subsidy for maintenance of the WaikokopuKopuawhara road to £6OO, £3 for £l. He also asked for the council's comment on the proposal to provide a crossing of the railway between Gisborne and Waikokopu at the 24 mile 67 chain peg in lieu of the crossing at Opoutama School as previously proposed.—lt was decided to send a copy of the engineer's report on the subject.

The Minister of Native Affairs notified that he was looking into the council's suggestion that water supplies should be provided for native dairy farmers at Nuhaka and Whakaki. A vote of £5 5s was made to the Far East relief fund, though several councillors held it was not the function of the council to do so.
