Mr. E. Parlane has been appointed chairman of the Christchurch Tramway Board for the next 12months.
Commandant N. O. Newton and Ensign M. Newton, Auckland, who have been engaged in Salvation Army work in China and Japan for the past year, have returned to New Zealand.
Mr. T. Cornwall, who has been Rationed in Gisborne for several years on the staff of the branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has received notice of his transfer to the Huntly branch.
Sir Richard Rankine, K.C.M.G., British Resident for the Zanzibar Protectorate since 1930, and Lady Rankine, formerly of Oamaru, are travelling to New Zealand by the Rangitane, which is due at Wellington from London on December 15.
Mr. J. R. Kirk, M.8.E., Wellington, who during the past five months has been visiting the four provinces of the Union of South Africa and Portuguese East Africa, has returned. Among New Zealandcrs whom he met were Dr. R. Campbell Begg, now a specialist in Johannesburg, and Major J. B. Tucker, resident of Kimberley.
Passengers who travelled yesterday .ind to-day between Gisborne, Napier, and Palmerston North by the East Coast Airways' service included Mr. and Mrs. S. Kirkpatrick; Mesdames J. Scott and Joseoh and two children; Messrs. R. Cousins, A. B. Williams, R. I Kerridge, T. W. Sewell, Young, Choat, E. B. Chapman, W. Fels, B. Te Kani, A. O. Hay, G. Pride, F. Walsh, F. Edwards, D. W. W. Williams, and Master Joseph.
Mr. J. A. Roberts, of Murray, Roberts and Co., Ltd., Dunedin, will arrive in Wellington by the Awatea from Sydney on December 13, with Mrs. Roberts. They are returning from England after attending the wedding of their daughter, Miss Dorothy Roberts to Mr. lan. McMillan, son of Mr. John McMillan, chairman of directors of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, Limited, which was recently celebrated in London. A tribute to the work of the secretary of the Poverty Bay Golf Club, Mr. R. W. J. Edwards, was paid by Mr. D. E. Chrisp last evening at the annual meeting of the club. He said the club was particularly fortunate in having Mr. Edwards' services, as he was always prominent so far as the work was concerned, but did not often have time to take part in the play when inter-club fixtures were being staged. It was moved as a recommendation to the incoming committee that his honorarium be reviewed if possible.
