REMOVAL REQUESTED
NATIVE COMMISSIONER PETITION TO PARLIAMENT (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. A quaintly phrased petition from 27 natives demanding that the services of the East Coast Native Commissioner be terminated was tabled in the House of Representatives by the Hon. F. Langstone. The petitioners state their objection to the expenditure of revenue from certain native lands in the formation of roads and the erection of timber mills. Mr. J. S. Jessep’s salary, they add, is £ISOO a year and his shepherd receives £2OO to £3OO a year. The stock are well and there is plenty of feed for them. “We, the owners of the land, are in poor condition without food or clothing,” it is added.
