PROMISE TO BE KEPT
INCREASE IN SALARIES R. AND. T. OFFICIALS (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. Responding to the toast “The Association” at the annual reunion of the Auckland section of the Post and Telegraph Employees’ Association last night, the Dominion president, Mr. H. W. Parnell, said there were many rumours of increased salaries, but so far the association had not been advised by the Government what it proposed to do to improve conditions. However, the Government had given the association an assurance that it would have an opportunity to state its case. Surely by now the Government should be in a position to increase salaries and grant a reclassification.
The Hon. F. E. Lark, who had been asked by the Prime Minister to represent him at the gathering, said Mr. Savage had informed him that he would keep his word with the Post and Telegraph Department.
“No matter what improvements are made, they will not be, made until you have had an opportunity of being heard, and the promise will be honoured right back to April. You people have no need to fear,’’ added Mr. Lark.
