Several of the difficulties of country schools were discussed, mainly in connection with transport. The chairman stated that the association was in sympathy with these schools, but pointed out that nothing could be done by the association unless it was officially requested by the school committees concerned to take up tflie question with the department. It was decided to write to the Gisborne Borough Council asking that a culvert be placed across the open drain at the Mangapapa School entrance, thus linking the pedestrian crossing with the footpath. It was explained that to use the crossing at present the children had to jump across the drain.
In connection with a letter from the Borough Council referring to the pedestrian crossings at Mill and Lvtton roads, To I-lapara, it was decided that a sub-committee view ihe sites and report to the association with any recommendations at next meeting.
