As the prisoners were trooping out after a concert at the Perth prison one rushed forward and attacked Miss Helen Heggie, a member of the concert party, and stabbed her in the back with an improvised knife made from a barrel hoop. The blade, which was Sin. in length, penetrated to the hilt. Other prisoners grappled with the assailarit and he was badly mauled before the warders intervened.
