SOCIAL EVENING (Herald Correspondent.) On Tuesday night, Miss Joan C.oodall, a popular young resident of the district, whose marriage takes place shortly, was the guest of honour at a social and gift evening. The function was held in the Makaraka-Mata-whero Hall and was organised by Mrs. Darton and Misses K. Rcidy, A. Eade and E. Livingston. There was a large attendance of residents and friends, who spent a very enjoyable time. Dancing to music supplied by Mrs. Ashdown and Mr. E. May was indulged in, the M.C. being Mr. W. Marshall. Several competitions proved amusing, the first, paper tearing, being won by Mrs. W. Marshall’s entry Bothweil, while the second, an obstacle race, was won by Miss Heaslip. After supper, Mr. Marshall, on behalf of those present, expressed all good wishes to Miss Goodall for a nappy future and asked her to accept a large assortment of gifts. Mr. Jonasen, another resident, said it gave him much pleasure to endorse the former speaker’s remarks, and wished Miss Goodall good luck. On behalf of Mr. C. G. Ansell’s staff, he asked Miss Goodall to accept a handsome tea set, with sincere hopes lor her prosperity. Miss Goodall. assisted by her sister, Miss P. Goodall, unwrapped her parcels, revealing a varied assortment of gifts for her iuture home. On behalf of his fiancee, Mr. J. Barrett expressed appreciation to all for their gifts and such a pleasant evening. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. J. Goodall, Mr. and Mrs. W. Livingston, Mr. and Mrs. W. Marshall. Mr. and Mrs. B. St. Luke’s Parish Mother’s Union There was a good attendance at the monthly meeting of the St. Luke’s Parish Mothers’ Union held on Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Halbert, Makaraka. Owing to the absence of the Rev. W. S. C. Stephens and Mrs. Stephens, who are attending the annual synod, there was no church service prior to the meeting. As Mrs. Royds, the enrolling member, was unavoidably absent, the chair was taken by the secretary, Mrs. Livingston. Extracts from the Mother’s Union Journal were read by Mrs. Darton. A social half-hour and afternoon tea served informally, concluded a pleasant meeting.
