A GOOD DEMAND

MATAWHERO CATTLE FAIR SALE OF FEMALE STOCK DECLINE IN VALUES For the second day of the Cattle Fair at the Matawhero saleyards today the offering comprised female stock, for which there was a good demand. There was a drop in values compared with the rates ruling at the last fair, but the decline was not so pronounced as for male cattle. Good empty cows were in demand, fat and forward making £7 13s. The following is the range of values, with the September prices in parenthesis:—Empty cows, top price £7 13s, other good lines £5 5s to £5 17s (September, good £6 to £6 16s, poor to medium, £3 16s to £5; cows and calves, £6 Is to £7 10s; grown heifers to £6 13s for a quality pen on account of Mr. F. E. Humphreys, others to £5 16s; yearling heifers £5 for extra, otherwise £3 6s to £4 13s (September, £4 15s to £5 9s for best lines, medium £3 16s); breeding cows £5 6s to £5 13s (September, £6 10s to £7); two-year heifers, £4 lis to £4 15s for medium, otherwise £5 to £6 10s, with £lO 10s for purebred P.A. Cameron, the auctioneer tried for an opening bid of Ogns, but the vendor opened at 15gns and there was no further bid; 14 Herefords, in good order, £5; 11 good condition Hereford-P.A. cross, £5 16s; 35 Here-ford-P.A., well grown, a good line, £6 lis: 35 Herefords, on account of Mr. C. G. Holdsworth, fresh condition, £5 lis; 49 Herefords, in good order, all dehorned, on account of Poututu station, £5 4s; 16 P.A., on account of Mr. D. Kccf There was a small entry of beef cattle, which were of ragged quality. The best price for cows was £lO and for heifers £ll.
