“PLUVIUS” POLICY
FIRST PRIVATE ONE ISSUED IN WELLINGTON (Special to tlift Herald.) WELLINGTON, this day. The first •‘Pluvius" insurance policy taken out by a private individual in New Zealand was taken out yesterday by a Wellington citizen for the week (which will include the Labour Day week-end) commencing at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, October 22. The citizen, who is of a sporting nature, has made the venture simply because he is going to the seaside to play golf, and is keen on gaining something if his holiday is marred by rain. The “Pluvius” policy has often been taken out by cricket and athletic associations in New Zealand as a precaution against the heavy loss they would be put to if it rained on the day of a special fixture and, now and again, the investment has paid.
In this case the insurance company has laid the private citizen nine to one in pounds that it will not rain 35 points per day for three days out of the seven in Otaki.
