"Merrily We Go," when called before the footlights to say farewell, astonished a packed house by saying: "1 have found myself. I wasn’t a very good ‘bloke,’ but I think I’m a better ‘bloke’ now. 1 have found God." The audience was mystified, but Lacv proceeded to relate that he had joined the Oxford Group, which is holding a world congress' at Bloemfontein. "I was drunk every night for three years," he said later. "I am divorced. I will carry out the Group’s principles oii the stage, and I think 1 can get laughs without being risque."
