Gallio and Anion were the first into the straight from Prince Acre, Bachelor King, and Tosh. Gallio went on well and won by a neck from Anion, Trilliarch finishing on well to be third. Bachelor King was fourth.

Continuing in the lead to the straight, Valamito and Day Wind showed the way to Kiltowyn, Taitoru, Entail, Knight of Australia, and Royal Appellant. Valamito looked like the winner a furlong from home, but Knight of Australia secured a run on the rails and got up to win by a neck from Valamito. Kiltowyn was half a length away third. Royal Appellant was fourth, followed by Boomerang, Scotland, Mazir, and Mungatoon.
