AIR DEPARTMENT

INSPECTOR APPOINTED EXTENSIVE EXPERIENCE (Pur Pross Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The appointment of Mr. H. Headland, assistant electrical engineer at Arapuni, to the position of oilicerengineer in the aeronautical inspection branch of the Air Department, was announced to-day by the Minister in charge of the department, the Hon. F. Jones. Mr. Headland is a master of science of the New Zealand Universityy, a fellow of the Institute of Mechanical Engineers, and an associate member of the Institute of Civil Engineers. He was from March, 1933, to April, 1935, with the Metropolitan Vickers Electrical Company, and from April, 1935, to April, 193(1, with Boving and Company, hydraulic engineers. He has had an extensive experience in the physical testing of all kinds of engineering materials, with a specialised knowledge of welding, including fatigue tests. In addition, he has a sound knowledge of engineering chemistry, qualitative analysis, and ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.
