SUPPLY OF POTATOES
NO N.Z. SHORTAGE DEPARTMENTAL SURVEY (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. “There is no danger of New Zealand homes running short of potatoes,” said Mr. R. B. Tennent, director of the Filds Division of the Department of Agriculture, to-day. The department had conducted a survey during the last few days and this disclosed that considerably more than 0000 tons of table potatoes were held in store in the Dominion. This was quite apart from any lines still remaining on farms. When the department was issuing permits for the export of potatoes to Uruguay and the Argentine earlier this year, there were some, Mr. Tennent said, who considered that New Zealand was going to be short later on, and the survey recently undertaken was in an endeavour to check up on the position. It was now apparent that, with the supplies householders already had, this quantity of potatoes would meet any likely demands.
