MAORI FINED £5 <'Rrm/rv to a horsk A Maori, Tipene Karikari, was charged with the unlawful conversion of a horse, the property of John Dart, and with cruelly ill-using it when he appeared yesterday before Mr. E. L. Walton, S.M., in the Opotiki Police Court. He was convicted and lined £5 on the charge of cruelty, £2 on the other charge, and ordered to pay £2 15s Gd costs. Mr. East appeared for the defendant, who pleaded not guilty. ft was stated that the defendant took the horse from a paddock and galloped it down the road. The animal was not shod and was caused much pain. George Reece was fined £2 and costs 10s for procuring liquor while prohibited. Charles Grace was fined £1 and costs £1 2s on a charge of being found on licensed premises while prohibited. Robert Gordon Parkinson was convicted and fined £1 and costs £2 12s for negligently driving a motor lorry. On August Iri Parkinson was driving a lorry between Opape and Torcre and came into collision with another lorry, driven by Leo Howard Dennett, when rounding a corner. It was alleged that Parkinson was cutting the corner.
