CANAL BARGE SERVICES

MIDLAND CITIES CARGOES FROM OVERSEAS (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Sept. 4. Weekly sailings have been arranged of ships between London and Antwerp, whereby, in conjunction with the canal barge services, cargoes will be carried to and from the Midlands cities in England almost entirely by water. The canal journey from London to Birmingham takes about five hours. Travelling day and night, it is expected that cargo from Antwerp will take about four days to reach Nottingham or Birmingham, including a day spent in transferring the goods at London from the ship to lighters.
