HEREFORD BULL FAIR A LARGE ATTENDANCE MORNING'S PRICES TO C7CNS. The second day's catalogue of the Poverty Bav Bull Breeders' Annual Fair was offered to a large attendance of buvers at the Matawhero saleyards to-dav by members of the Poverty Bav Stockbrokers' Association. Drizzling rain fell throughout the sale. „ , , ~ A total of 104 2-year Hereford bulls were catalogued, 20 of these being Polled and 84 horned. Prices during the first hour ol selling reached G7gns. for a Ronnie Gem bull offered on account of Mr. M. W. Barker and bought by Mr. R. C. Murphy, while a further bull by Parorangi Dauphin, offered on account oi the same breeder, was bought by Mr. E. Loisel, Tolaga Bay, at GGgns. A number of bulls were passed in under the hammer, but most of the others sold readily at fairly brisk bidding. The prices during the early part of ! the sale averaged 43gns. ABERDEEN ANGUS CATTLE SALE OF IMPORTATIONS 500 GUINEAS TOP PRICE An important, sale of imported Aberdeen-Angus cattle was held by Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, in Wellington recently. The offering comprised 20 head, 10 | bulls and 10 females, being the second shipment of Aberdeen-Angus cattle arranged by Mr. Wayland Hopley, past president of the American Aber-deen-Angus Breeders' Association and president of the Wayland Hopley Farms. ' The shipment arrived at Wellington from New York, on June 26 and has since completed the customary period of quarantine. The animals wen* representative of seven of the greatest Aberdeen-Angus herds in the United States, the majority coming from the famous Wayland Hopley Farms, Atlantic, lowa. Great interest was shown in tbe sale, there being a large attendance of leading cattle breeders. Bidding was not very keen, and 13 of the 20 lots offered were sold, the average being 270 guineas per head. The six bulls sold realised 1775gn5., an average of 296gns. per head, and the seven females realised 1735gn5., an average of 248gns. per head. At the wool sales, 12,930 bales were offered and 8430 sold; 599 bales were sold privately. The weaker tendency at last week’s auctions continued to-day and the market for other than best fleece and free broken was from 10 to 15 per cent below the opening rates, best descriptions falling from 5 to 71. per cent. GOLD MINING RETURNS The Kildare Consolidated Gold Mining Company, Limited, has reported to the Wellington Stock Exchange that a washup has just been completed for a return of 78oz. from 13 weeks 5 days’ sluicing. This time includes nine days occupied in repairing damage to pipe line. The Waimumu sluicing return is 28oz. lGdwt. for 101 hours’ work with a gravel pump. The Okarito dredge return for the week ended Saturday was 470 z. sdwt. for 101 hours. The return from the Waipapa dredge for 134 hours was 9oz. 4dwt. The Clutha River dredge return for the week ended Friday was 3030 z. for 128 hours’ work.

The Mataki dredge return for the week ended September 5 was 29 ounces for 131 hours' work, and 9800 cubic yards.
