PIG CLUB NOTES
INTEREST ON COAST FIRST PUHA LITTER A recent acquisition to Mr. L. C. Wagner's herd of pedigree pigs is a Tamworth boar and Tamworth sow. Both are excellent types, and were bred by Mr. A. C. Nixon, Rotorua. Mr. George Brown, the custodian of the Puha Pig Club, has advised that the club sow has farrowed a very nice litter. This sow was purchased in the Waikato. She is of the Tamworth breed, and is of a first quality selection. Mr. Brown quite recently erected a piggery on the latest and most modern methods. Interest in the pig club movement continues in the Manutuke district, and farmers are to have an opportunity to form another club. A meeting for the purpose will be held in the Manutuke Hall on Wednesday evening. The first club formed made a sow of the Berkshire breed their choice, and now Tamworth supporters have expressed a desire to form a club to acquire a sow of this breed. Their action is to be commended in forming a separate club instead of one club purchasing a sow of each breed; it helps to spread interest in the pig club movement, instead of centralising it. This is noticeably the case where farmers decline to pay a large membership foe, when a club decides to purchase two sows. Activity and interest in the pig club movement is now evident in the Te Araroa, Hicks Bay and Te Kaha districts, and a busy time lies ahead of the local pig council in arranging for the organising of clubs in these areas. The recently-formed Ruatoria club has decided to purchase a sow of the Tamworth breed. Mr. H. M. Peirson, extension officer of the Ruakura State Farm, being authorised to select and purchase on their behalf.
