CURING OF LEMONS

CENTRAL SHED PROPOSAL EARLY ACTION POSSIBLE GISBORNE PARTY'S TRIP The proposal to establish a central packing and curing shed for citrus fruits in Gisborne on a co-operative basis may take definite shape during the coming season, and for the purpose of gaining information a small party of Gisborne growers will visit northern citrus growing areas towards the end of this month. The need of a central lemon-curing establishment at Gisborne lias been apparent for a number of years, and the possibility of establishing a base on a co-operative plan has been discussed by growers on many occasions, and the proposed tour is one step growers are expecting to take in a speedy solution of the problem. Information gained on the visit, which will include the other three citrus-producing areas of the Dominion, namely Tauranga, Auckland, and Kerikeri, in the Bay of Islands, is expected to enable the Gisborne men to formulate their plans and bring them to completion during the season, by which time a modern lemon-curing factory should be erected in Gisborne. All possible information on construction, equipment and working methods will be acquired on the tour, which is arranged to extend over 10 or 11 days. September 20 is the date set down tentatively for leaving Gisborne.
