JERRY LEONARD LEAVES NO PROSPECTS HERE CONTPA( T (30MPOUNDEO The Queensland welterweight champion, Jerry Leonard, left Gisborne yesterday for Auckland, there being few prospects of further matches for him in the near future, so far as New Zealand is concerned. The Gisborne Boxing Association, under whose auspices the Queenslander made his trip to New Zealand, had a contract with Leonard for two fights, but opponents have been difficult to arrange for, and the association has compounded its contract obligations with Leonard, in order to clear the decks for activities in other directions. Leonard had only one fight in Gisborne. that with Billy Martin, his display convincing many of the spectators' that he was entitled to the verdict on points, though the judges gave the decision to Martin. Leonard made up his mind hurriedly when he received an offer from a friend of a lift through to Auckland. The vessel he will cross the Tasman on does not leave that port for a week and if his negotiations with McMahon, in Palmerston North, or another aggressive type of fighter are successful he might yet delay his departure.
