An avenue of trees is to be planted In Woodlands Park, Gravesend, one each for the Mayor, aldermen, and counsellors, and one for the town clerk. The churchwardens of two London churches, St. Paul's. Covent Garden, and St. John's, Horsleydown, levy a rate of Id in the pound for the rector. The village of Lourtier, Canton Valais, in which 65 houses and barns have been badly damaged by a flow of mud, has been evacuated by its population.
