MATCH DRAWN

NEW ZEALAND V. WARWICK COUNTY 322 FOR NINE VISITORS 219 FOR SIX CARSON TOP SCORER (From the Special Representative of tlie United Press Association.) (Reed. Aug. 7, 11 a.m.) BIRMINGHAM, Aug. 6. The match between the New Zealand cricketers and Warwick ended in a draw, stumps being drawn when the vsitors had four wickets in hand and still required 82 runs. Continuing their second innings this morning, the county carried the total to 322 for nine wickets and declared. New Zealand batted steadily for the remainder of the day and put on 219 for the loss of six wickets. The New Zealanders, in muggy heat, bowled and fielded keenly. Moloney maintained his length and spin commendably, while Vivian and Gallichan were consistently steady.. The Warwickshire tailenders followed hit-or-miss tactics and enjoyed considerable fortune, many mis-hits falling clear of the fieldsmen. Tourists’ Difficult Task Warwick's recovery after losing five wickets cheaply, set the tourists the rather difficult task of scoring 302 runs in the fourth innings to win. The difficulties increased when the first three wickets fell for 61 runs. Hadlee and Wallace were both comfortable and aggressive, and Weir gave a fine exhibition of powerful driving, hitting eight fours. Weir and Donnelly together put on 65 runs in 40 minutes. Five men were out for 126, but Carson and Moloney played steadily when the side was in the shadow of a possible defeat. Carson played powerful scoring strokes, especially anything short, and hit six fours. The sixth wicket fell when the score was 200. A new ball was not taken, the county relying on the spin bowlers, as the wicket was showing signs of wear. Moloney patiently played out time with Page, and showed fine patience and defence when the county was striving for a win.
