“DIGGERS” MEETING

POSTPONED FUNCTION DELEGATES TO REPORT Undiminished activity on the part of the Gisborne Returned Soldiers’ Association is revealed by the annual report of that body, prepared for the annual general meeting to be held in Findlay’s rooms this evening. It is claimed, in fact, that the association’s programme is more extensive now than at any time in the past five or six years.

It has been the custom of the association to hold its annual meetings on successive Anznc Days, following the public memorial services, but this year the ceremony was abandoned owing- tv*) the infantile paralysis epidemic, which also caused the postponement from week to week of the annual general meeting. In the meantime, the New Zealand conference has been held, and those who attend to-night’s gathering will have the advantage of hearing a brief review of the conference decisions on matters of special interest to the returned soldiers of this district. A highly satisfactory return from the annual Poppy Day appeal, and a number of other successful efforts made during the year- also will be reported on. and the president, Colonel R. F. Gambrill, is understood to have interesting announcements to make concerning the programme of the Gisborne association for the immediate future.
