THE WEATHER To-day's North Island Report Blue skies were; reported this morning at Napier and north of Gisborne, but overcast conditions prevailed elsewhere in the North Island. Moderate to strong south-westerlv breezes were general. The barometer had commenced to fall again. Temperatures at 9 o'clock were: Auckland 49 degrees, Tauranga 44, Opotiki 45, East Cape 48, Gisborne and Napier 4fi, and Wellington 42. Rough seas were reported between Cane Campbell and East Cape; elsewhere moderate or smooth. Last Night's Forecast Pressure is still low east of the North Island and an area of low pressure also extends over the Cook Strait area. An intense anticyclone now covering eastern Australia and the Tasman Sea is, however, ap-, proaching the Dominion and a mbrei settled type of weather should, therelore, shortlv set in. The forecast: is for winds, south-westerly to southerly prevailing, strong at first on parts' of the east coast and in the North Isi land, but later decreasing, and otherwise moderate. Seas in New Zealand I waters should be rather rough to ! rough north of Farewell Spit and between Kaikoura and East Cape; elsewhere, slight to moderate. In the eastern Tasman Sea. there will be moderate to strong but decreasing southerly winds. Seas will be rough bul gradually moderating. The weather will be mainly fair in the western districts of the South Island, otherwise changeable, with passing showers, but an improvement will commence to-morrow in most parts. Temperatures will be cold, with some sharp frosts in the South Island.
