NEW CARGO VESSEL

OFFICERS’ DEPARTURE To bring to New Zealand one of three cargo vessels now being built on the Clyde for the Union Steam Ship Company, Ltd., three members of the company’s staff left Aucklond on Tuesday by the Royal Mail liner Niagara for Vancouver, en route to England. The party comprises Captain D. N. McLeish, formerly master of the Karu and later of the Kauri —two of the company’s latest motor-ships—and Mr. A. A. Mclntyre, chief engineer, and Mr. S. V. Hart, chief steward. It is not definitely known which vessel will be brought out by the officers. The ships now in the Scottish yards are the Kakapo, 2500 tons; the Kahika, 1500 tons, and the Wanaka, 2370 tons. A fourth ship, the Karitanc, of 2250 tons, will be a later addition to the licet.
