DISPUTED BELGIAN BILL

AMNESTY FOR TRAITORS SPONSOR RESIGNS (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. July 13, noon' BRUSSELS, July 12. The Belgian Minister of Justice, M de le Veleyc, lias resigned.

On July 2 a crowd of Belgian exsoldiers and Fascists mobbed and beat the Minister of Justice, M. de le Velcye, sponsor of the recently-passed bill providing for an amnesty for wartime traitors, when he inspected the Law Courts now under construction at Mons.

An assailant tore out a handful of M. de le Veleye's hair. Battered and bleeding, accompanied by his secretary, the Minister ran the gauntlet for 100 yards to his car, in which he accomplished a rapid "retreat from Mons.”

King Leopold received representatives of ex-servicemen who protested against the amnesty. His Majesty appealed for national loyalty and pointed out that, since the amnesty law had been passed, opposition to it was unavailing, nor could a referendum be held.
