NON-NTERVENTION ASM SPANISH COAST PATROL QUESTIONS IN COMMONS MEETING ON FRIDAY (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 1.45 p.m. RUGBY, July 12. Next Friday lias been fixed as the date for a meeting of the non-inter-vention committee when the British Government will report on the mandate entrusted to it of finding a solution of the Spanish deadlock on the sea observation scheme. Speaking in the House of Commons the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Anthony Eden, said that the Government was conscious of the difficulty of the task and was fully aware of its urgency.
In reference to the French announcement that facilities to foreign observers on the French-Spanish frontier would be suspended as from tomorrow, Mr. Eden said that lie understood the observers would be allowed to remain. Ban on Foreign Troops Mr. Eden declined to give any information concerning the nature of the British proposals to be put before Friday's meeting of the committee. Replying to other questions y.hc Foreign Secretary said he was fully aware oT the importance of getting non-Spanish volunteers out of Spain and also of establishing air control and naval control to be administered impartially.
The British Government desired its consul to return to Bilbao as soon as possible and an official had already proceeded to Bilbao to take possession of the consular offices and archives.
Mr. Eden, referring to the Bilbao mines, said that no negotiations, as far as he knew, had been started between General Franco, the rebel leader, and the British interests concerned.
