Mr. Tom Clarke, driver of the special train in which the King and Queen and the Princesses returned to London from Scotland, was summoned to the Royal coach on the arrival of the train at Euston station, and received Their Majesties’ thanks'for a comfortable journey.

The Kin" presented Mr. Clarke with the British Empire Medal, and awarded Mr. Clarke Coronation honours for meritorious service in record-making drives. The King asked Mr. Clarke whether record-breaking taxed his nerves, and Mr. Clarke replied that he was so fully occupied he was unable to think about nerves.
