.MR. A. M. MAE.MS LEY DEAD SYDNEY, July 12. The death occurred to-day of Mr Alfred Macartney Halmsley, one oi Sydney's best known solicitors, aged 70. LABOUR POLITICIAN DORMER DEPUTY-PREMIER PERTH, July 12. The death is reported of Mr. Alec. McCallum, a prominent Labour politician and deputy -Premier in the Collier Government, Latterly, Mr. Macadam was chairman of Ihe Agricultural Bank Commission.
Mr. McCallum, born in 1878 in Sou.is Australia, was a former general secretary of the Australian Labour Par.y i.i Western Australia. He was Minister of Public Works, Water Sup-j’v. Labour and State Trading Concerns in tlie Collier Government .roan 1924 to 1930. In 1930 he was elected deputy-leader of tlie Western Au India Parliamentary Labour Party, and. in addition to being vicePro'.nier, has been Minister of Works, Labour, Agriculture and Goldfields, Water Supplies and State Trading Concerns since April, 1933. Mis recreations were bird fancying and football.
