The ground, which bad been covered by snow last Wednesday, was very heavy and at one end ol the playing area the water was over inches deep. There was a fairly large attendance to watch the match and with the hills on one side of the field still covered with snow, the players in their coloured jerseys showed up well. Sholtz, the Motu fullback', received a nasty cut on his head in slopping one rush, and had to leave the field.
Hangaroa still kept on the pressure. but il was not until just before half-time that, they opened their scoring account. From a good passing rush, B. Marshall scored wide out, but Rika failed to add the extra points.
From the kick-off in the second half, the Ilangaroa forwards took play down to near the Motu goal-line, and following a scrum, Spence received the ball to score in a handy position, Rika having no trouble in converting the kick. Motu then took a turn in attacking, but could not get over the line and the Ilangaroa backs were then seen in a good passing rush which Edwards finished off by scoring wide out. Spence failing to convert. The last try of the match was scored just on time when from a scrum, Thompson got over in a handy position, but Spence missed with the kick.
