BABY RESCUED FROM FIRE
MOTHER’S GALLANTRY SEVERE HERNS RECEIVED (Pur Pross Association.) WIIAKATANE, tiffs day. Dashing into her burning cottage at Paroa on Saturday afternoon lo rescue her four-months-old baby, a native woman, Mrs. C. Pile, received very severe burns when her clothing caught fire, but she saved tile child’s life.'
She was admitted to the Whakatano Ilospitai, where her condition is reported to be serious, but hopes are held for her recovery. The baby was slightly burned. The husband, a prominent local representative footballer, was absent at a match.
Mrs. Pile left her three children in the cottage while she went, to a neighbour's house for milk. Looking back, she saw her own home on lire and ran to the scene, finding that her two elder chilcon had escaped, but that the baby was still inside. Sin' frantically dashed in and brought out the infant, though the flames were bursting out of the windows and the roof.
