HOCKEY NOTES
REP. SELECTIONS AY 11)L INTEREST AROUSED More interest than usual has been aroused this year over Poverty Bay hockey representative possibilities both in the ladies and men's competitions. The standard of play has been higher and competition for positions in the representative teams is much keener than for many years. As a result, there is a wide difference of opinion among players and supporters regarding prospects of selection. This should be put partly at an end this week when the selectors announce the A and B teams to compete next Saturday. In the meantime a correspondent writing under the name of “Sideline” has put forward his suggestions. He states that the Caledonian men’s team has such a good combination that with three players from the Y.M.C'.A. A team, Caledonian should be able to stand up to any eleven in New Zealand. He also submits his selection of a ladies' team. His proposals arc:—
Men. —Goal. Coker (Y.M.C’.A.): fullbacks, Jock Harrison and Miller; halfbacks, Nieol (Y.M.C.A.), Lowe and Douglas; forwards, A. Crothers, Prentice (Y.M.C.A.). Jim Harrison, Slade and McLean. Ladles. —Goal, Miss Patty (Kia Toa); fullbacks, Miss Allen (Kia Toa) and Mrs. Watts (Kia Toa); half-backs, Mrs. Tuhoe (Waituhi), Miss Tuhoc (Kia Toa) and Miss Gillett (Coronation); forwards, Miss Toroa (Y.M.P.). Miss Ruru (Waituhi), Mrs. Nieol (Coronation), Mrs. Le Bas (Kia Toa) and Mrs. Ncilson (Coronation).
