YEAR'S £12,000 DEFICIT

TRANSPORT BOARD’S WORK HIGH EXCHANGE HOSTS ADDITIONS TO STALL (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. The balance sheet and accounts submitted to the annual meeting of the Auckland Transport Board today showed that the revenue to March 31 was .6584,860, an increase of .640,036 on the previous year, and the expenditure was £597,043, compared with £561,010 in the previous year. The result of the year’s operations was a deficit of £12,183. compared with a deficit of £16,187 for the previous year.

The chairman, the Hon. H. G. R. Mason, said that the overseas exchange very seriously affected the board, £20,031 extra being paid to meet the London interest bill of £80,938.

The manager, Mr. A. E. Ford, reported that the operation ,of the 40-hour week necessitated the engagement of 148 additional men, and (he cost of the improved working conditions was £70,600 a year. Mr. Mason was unanimously reelected as chairman with an honorarium of £3OO, and Mr. F. E. Lark was unanimously re-elected as deputy chairman.
