CLOSING OF THEATRE
STRIKE BY EMPLOYEES HIGHER PAY SOUGHT SYDNEY. July 11. The employees of the Tivoli Theatre last night went on strike in order to enforce an increase in wages commensurate with the recent rise in the Federal basic wage. The management disputed the claim. The audience received their money back and the theatre was closed.
PARIS HOTEL DISPUTE WEEK OF FIVE DAYS PARIS, July 19. A general strike of hotel, cafe, and restaurant employees was decreed today, following the refusal of the proprietors to adopt a five-day week. Anticipating the move, a number of owners of premises in the Champs Elysees l’Opera, Montmartre, and Montparnasse closed down overnight. Parisians are comforting themselves with the hope that the countless oneman cafes scattered throughout the city will remain open.
The managers of many of the larger hotels have announced to tourists that their premises will remain open whatever happens.
