TYPHOID AMONG MAORIS
TWO FURTHER CASES PATIENTS FROM W ATM ANA The typhoid epidemic among Maoris in the Urewera country and the surrounding districts, which was believed to have subsided, still persists, and last week two patients from the Waimana district were admitted to the Whakatane Public Hospital. So far as the Health Department has been able to ascertain the disease has no common source of infection and carriers are probably responsible for its spread rather than bad sanitation. It has been found at Ruatahuna and Opotiki, but it has been chiefly reported from Waimana. At the height of the outbreak some weeks ago 12 cases were in hospital at one time and there were two deaths,
